Drumheller Exteriors

Drumheller is unlike anywhere else we work. The town sits down in the Red Deer River valley with the badlands rising on both sides, and that geography does real things to buildings: sun exposure on south-facing slopes is intense and prolonged, wind funnels along the valley, and the valley floor holds heat in a way the prairie above it does not.

For roofing, the sun exposure is the headline. High-altitude UV combined with heat radiating off exposed valley slopes ages asphalt shingles faster here than in most of our service area, and it does so unevenly — a south or west elevation can be visibly further along than the north side of the same roof. That makes attic ventilation more important rather than less, because a roof already taking that much heat from above cannot also be cooked from below.

The housing runs from older stock in the original townsite and the surrounding hamlets — Rosedale, Nacmine, Newcastle, Midland — through newer subdivision growth. The older homes tend to need eave work alongside roofing, with original wood fascia and soffit that have taken decades of the valley's wet-dry, hot-cold cycling.

Hail is a regular Central Alberta event here, and the tourism-driven rental and commercial component in this town adds a wrinkle: properties that are not owner-occupied get inspected less, and damage goes unreported longer. If you own a rental or a seasonal property in the valley, a post-storm inspection matters more than it does on a house someone lives in year-round.

Drumheller is its own municipality with its own permit process for re-roofing and detached garage construction, and Starland and Wheatland County rules govern the surrounding parcels. We handle whichever applies as part of the job.

This is at the eastern edge of our radius, about ninety minutes out, which shapes how we schedule. Work here gets staged so the crew and the materials arrive together and the job runs continuously rather than across several trips, and we group it with the rest of the eastern run — Strathmore, Standard, Rockyford, Rosebud — so the trip is efficient.
