Nanton Exteriors

Nanton is a small town with a well-preserved historic main street and a housing stock that skews older than most of what we work on. That means steeper pitches, more complex rooflines, original wood fascia and soffit that were never capped, and a lot of properties where the eave work matters as much as the roof.

Wind is the defining exterior problem here. Nanton sits on open ground with the foothills close to the west, and chinooks arrive with a clear run at the town. Wind damage concentrates at rakes, ridges and the first courses above the eave — exactly where a fast installer's shortcuts show — and creased shingles are common: uplift folds the shingle without tearing it off, the fibreglass mat breaks along the fold, and it fails there in the next event. They look intact from the ground and are only visible from the roof.

Hail reaches Nanton on the southern track. Storms that come down the foothills through Okotoks and High River carry on through here and out toward Stavely, Claresholm and Vulcan. As everywhere, the damage bruises rather than leaks, and in a small market with fewer local roofing options homeowners tend to wait longer for an inspection than they should.

Ranch and acreage work around Nanton is a normal part of our schedule. Those properties have big roof areas, no windbreak at all, long eave runs, and drainage that has to be planned around a septic field and a well head as well as the foundation. We schedule them as whole-site visits — house, garage, shop, barn and outbuildings in one trip — because sending a crew an hour out for one building is inefficient for everyone.

The Town of Nanton handles permits inside the boundary and Willow Creek MD governs the surrounding ranch parcels, with different rules on structure size and siting. We handle whichever applies as part of the job.

Practically, Nanton is about 65 minutes south on Highway 2 and part of our southern run along with High River, Cayley, Blackie and Stavely. Work at that distance gets staged so the crew and the materials arrive together and the job runs continuously, which is what keeps small-town pricing sensible.
